013 - Another year, another Valentine's Day.

... So, Valentine's Day is coming up soon. Normally I wouldn't even bother keeping track of this, as other than the occasional courtesy chocolate it's usually just a reminder of the fact that I still don't have a girlfriend.

However, considering the way the town tends to act for these events, I figured I might as well try and find a way to prepare myself. Anyone know what they've done for previous Valentine's here?

[[There's a ruffling of paper, and then Theta speaks up.]]

The Valentine's candy that appeared in the shops had unexpected and unwanted side-effects, apparently. I wasn't here for it.

Ah, what a clever tactic, Kyon, broadcasting your lack of relations so that interested females will know you are available! Don't you think your friends will have something to say about that?

Hmm, it's pointless anyway, though, as I'm sure you know I think. If you do find out what has been done, though, please inform me. I'm curious to see my first such event. I wonder why they choose to emulate holidays? Perhaps it is because the schedule of holidays represents things that are important to people, particularly holidays representing things from this American culture. Naturally, it would make sense if the maintainers of this facility have some actual connection to the world that it is modeled upon.

Ah, and Kyon, may I ask what your address is?

Hmm, Nagato-san said something about candy being used for this purpose at Halloween as well. I wonder why the same device would be used twice? Perhaps a limitation of their technology, though it's hard to imagine why such an arbitrary limitation would exist...

Oh they gave us little candy hearts that made us act strangely.

[identity profile] motheringnation.livejournal.com 2011-02-11 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
O-oh, yes. I'm sorry.

I-It was a lot like the Halloween event. The candy hearts made us act in ... different ways. People were shouting that they loved people on the phone. Other people were speaking in poetry. Some people were stalking others.

Last year we had those crappy heart candies that made everybody act all different. Kinds like after Halloween too.

Oh yeah, Mayfield's always a barrel 'a laughs. I mean, it's better than hazmat guys 'n' shit like that, at least.

"Mou, who cares Kyon, this holiday is stupid anyway."

[identity profile] flameyedhunter.livejournal.com 2011-02-11 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Good answer. Let me know what you find out then!"

[Fresh cookies, not-son?]

Oh, I'm sure you'll meet a special young lady someday. I don't think here is really the place, though.

[identity profile] herheavenlydays.livejournal.com 2011-02-11 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
So, what are you going to be doing, then? Assuming nothing happens, I mean.

[identity profile] pants-yourmove.livejournal.com 2011-02-11 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
I don't have one either, I'm just sort of buying stuff for everyone.

I wasn't here last Valentine's Day though. Do you think they'll do something? It's not like a real holiday.

[identity profile] pants-yourmove.livejournal.com 2011-02-11 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
That's true.

Maybe I'll stay inside that day.
